We have compiled a list of the neighborhoods most frequently asked questions

What can we recycle?
What exactly can be put in the blue BFI recycling container for Tuesday morning pick up? We contacted BFI to find out.

Residents can recycle the following items:
Paper products:
Newspapers, magazines, and junk mail. Stack these items - do not tie.

Plastics:
Clear and cloudy plastic soft drink bottles, milk jugs, and any plastic container or sack with a 1 or 2 inside the triangle. Remember to remove the paper or plastic labels and caps, rinse, and flatten.

Cans:
Aluminum and tin cans. Remove the paper label, rinse, and flatten.

These items cannot be placed in the recycling bin:
Phone books, typing paper, cardboard containers, aerosol cans, scrap metal, foil, plastic wrap, and glass.

If you need more information about recycling or need a recycling bin, call BFI at 713.937.9955.

How does the Architectural Control Committee work?
To preserve the aesthetic appearance of the neighborhood and protect property values, our community bylaws call for an Architectural Control Committee (ACC) of three volunteer Nottingham West homeowners.

The ACC serves three primary roles:

  • To grant approvals for any exterior changes to homes or lots, including paint colors, remodeling, landscaping, fencing, and exterior lighting;
  • To monitor the neighborhood for deed violations;
  • To award the coveted "Yard of the Month."

Residents in violation of the deed restrictions are notified by mail. If the situation is not resolved, the ACC may complete the work at the homeowner's expense.

If you are planning exterior changes or would like to anonymously report a deed restriction violation, email NottinghamWest@hotmail.com or call one of the members of the ACC

What can I do about a dead tree near a power line?
Dead trees detrimentally risk your property, your neighbors' property, and our overhead power lines and will be removed for free. We called the HL&P distributor, to be called Centerpoint starting next month, about how to handle the situation.

If the dead tree is on the easement of your yard and is a threat to the main power line, call 713.207.2222. A forester will come out in 10 working days and leave notice when you can expect a contractor to remove the tree.

If the dead tree is a threat to the drop, or the connection from the main power line to your home, HL&P-Centerpoint will not pay for the tree removal. You should contact them, however, 4 hours in advance of having the tree removed to turn off the power.
