LAST WEEK ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY SEVERAL PACKAGES LEFT BY UPS AND FED-X WERE TAKEN FROM THE FRONT POURCH OF RESIDENCES IN THE HEATHLAKE SUBDIVISION. NONE HAS BEEN REPORTED IN OUR AREA. THE SUSPECT WERE SEEN AT ONE RESIDENCE AND WERE TOW WHITE MALES IN A WHITE TRUCK. THIS CRIME CAN GO UNNOTCIED FOR SEVERAL DAYS SO IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A PACKAGE FROM USP OR FED-X CHECK ON THE SHIPPING.

BURGLARIES IN FONN VILLAS - 12/4/07

STARTING IN JUNE THERE HAVE BEEN 16 BURGLIES IN FON VILLAS WITH MOST OF THEM OCCURING IN OCT AND NOV. 11 HAVE HAPPEN ON THE WEEKEND WITH MOST OF THEM IN THE EVENINGS HOURS. THE SUSPECT WAS SEEN ON SAT THE 29 OF NOV WALKING WITH A BAG IN THE AREA OF THE LAST ONE. HPD CAME OUT WITH K-P AND FOLLOWED HIM FOR ABOUT 2 BLOCKS AND THEN LOST THE TRAIL .

THE SUSPECT IS DECRIPITION IS A WHITE MALE MID 30 WITH LIGHT HAIR MED BUILD AND WAS

WEARING A DARK JUMP SUIT.

SOME OF THE HOMES THAT WERE HIT RECIEVED SERVERAL PHONE CALLS FROM A PRIVATE CALLER AND LEFT NO MESSAGE.

IN SOME CASE IF A HOUSE ALARM GOES OFF IT CAN BE UP TO 10 MIN BEFORE WE GET THE CALL FROM THE ALARM COMPANY AND THEN ANOTHER 5 MIN BEFORE WE GET TO THE HOUSE. IF A ALARM IS SOUNDING PLEASE CALL OUR DISPATCHER AS THIS MAY SPEED UP OUR ARRIVAL TIME.

Robbery Arrest 10-30-07.

ON TUESDAY 10-30-07 AT APROX 445 PM A STRADFORD STUDENT WHO LIVES IN THE 14100 BLK OF BRITOAK WAS WALKING HOME AFTER STAYING LATE AT SCHOOL TO TAKE A TEST. IN THE 800 BLK OF COUNTRY PLACE BY THE PARK HE WAS APPROCHED BY A BLACK MALE WHO AFTER TAKING HIS I-POD DEMANDED MONEY FOR THE RETURN OF THE I-POD. THE COMPLAINANT GAVE THE SUSPECT 30 DOLLARS AND THESUSPECT RETURNED THE I-POD AND LEFT GOING TOWARD THE 14200 BLK OF KINBERLEY THE APTS THERE. WHEN THE COMPLAINANT ARRIVED HOME HE CALLED US AND MYSELF DEPUTY COMBS AND DEPUTY LEWIS MADE THE SCENE. AFTER GETTING A DESCRIPITION OF THE SUSPECT I DROVE OVER TO THE APTS AND LOCATED THE SUSPECT. WHEN I APPROCHED THE SUSPECT HE STARTED TO RUN AWAY AFTER A STRUGGLE HE WAS ABLE TO GET AWAY FROM ME. I CALLED FOR MORE UNITS AND WE CHECKED THE AREA HE WAS SEEN BY DEPUTY WILLIAMS AND AGAIN WAS ABLE TO OUT RUN HIM. WE CONTUNIED TO SEARCH THE AREA AND THE SUSPECT WAS LOCATED AT THE CAVENDERS STORE ON THE KATY FWY BY DEPUTY TRISTAN WHO WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE SUSPECT INTO CUSTODY. THE SUSPECT WAS ID BY COMPLAINANT AND MYSELF AND BOOKED INTO JAIL ON FELONY ROBBERY CHARGES.

ONE MORE BAD GUY OFF THE STREET.

Out of Area - Burglary and Arrests

THE BURGLARY ON PINEROCK HAD THE SAME ENTRY AS THE ONE ON MYRTLEA. THEY TOOK LARGE ITEMS SO THEY WERE IN A TRUCK OR VAN MY GUESS IS A VAN AS THEY WOULD BE SEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH A LARGE TV IN THE BACK OF A TRUCK BUT YOU NEVER KNOW AS NOBODY SEEN THEM ANYWAY. I ASKED YOU TO TELL ALL OF THE RESIDENTS TO CALL US IF THEY SEE SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS.

GUESS WHAT SOMEBODY CALL US ABOUT A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE. I OBSERVED THE VEHICLE AS IT TURNED OFF OF THE 13600 BLK OF TOSCA TO GO SOUTH ON YORKCHESTER. IT TURNED WEST ON TO APPLE TREE WITH ME BEHIND IT AND PULLED INTO A DRIVE WAY ON APPLE TREE. THERE WERE TWO BLACK MALES IN THE VEHICLE. I DETAINED THE MALES AND CHECKED THEIR IDS. BOTH HAD WARRANTS OUT OF PCT 5. I PLACED BOTH SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY. I THEN CHECKED THE CAR AND FOUND A LEAF BLOWERE IN THE BACK SEAT. AT THIS TIME A RESIDENT ON TOSCA CALL US AND STATED THAT A BLACK MALE HAD STOLEN A LEAF BLOWER ON TOSCA. OTHER DEPUTIES ARRIVED ON LOCATION. WE SPOKE WITH THE WITTNESS WHO WAS BROUGHT TO MY SCENE AND DID ID ONE OF THE MALES WHO STOLE THE LEAF BLOWER. DURNING THIS TIME THE OWNER OF THE LEAF BLOWER, A YARD CREW, HAD LEFT AND COULD NOT BE LOCATED. THE TWO SUSPECT MATCH THE DESCRIPTION OF OF THE PERSONS SEEN STEALING YARD EQUIPTMENT IN OTHER LOCATIONS. BOTH SUSPECTS WERE BOOKED INTO JAIL ON THE WARRANTS. HPD BURGLARY AND TEFT AND HPD AUTO THEFT WERE CALLED AND A COPY OF THE REPORT WAS FORWARED TO THEM SO THEY MAY DO A FOLLOW UP. LOOKS LIKE WITH ONE PHONE CALL TO US WE GOT TWO BAD GUYS OFF THE STREET AND MAY HAVE CLEARED UP SERVEAL THEFTS IN OUR AREA.

BOTH SUSPECTS STATED THEY WERE MEMBERS OF THE CRIPS.

ARREST - Out of Area (10-19-07)

ON THURSDAY 10-18-07 AT THE CORNER OF PERTHSHIRE AND N KIRKWOOD A YOUNG MALE WAS WAITING ON THE SCHOOL BUS WHEN HE WAS APPROCHED BY A HISPANIC MALE APROX 60 YOA RIDING A BICYCLE. HE STATED THE MAN TALKED TO HIM IN SPANISH AND THE BOY RAN AWAY AND GOT ON THE WRONG BUS FOR SCHOOL. SPRING BRANCH ISD PD INFORMED PCT 5 OF THIS.

ON FIRDAY 10-19-07 DEPUTY FELIX AND DEPUTY VITAL OBSERVED THE HISPANIC MALE IN THE SAME AREA. THEY MADE CONTACT WITH HIM AND DISCOVERED HE HAD SEVERAL WARRANTS FOR HIS ARREST OUT OF PCT. 5. SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO JAIL. SPRING BRANCH ISD PD WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ARREST AND WILL CONDUCT THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER.

Out of Area - Aggravated Robbery (10-15-07)

ON MONDAY OCT 15 AT AROUND 830 PM IN THE 600 BLK OF WYCLIFFE A STRADFORD STUDENT PULLED INTO HIS DRIVE WAY AND A VEHICLE PARKED ON THE STREET BEHIND HIS VEHICLE. THE COMP WAS APPROCHED IN HIS DRIVEWAY A HISPANIC MALE WHO ASKED DIRECTIONS TO I-10. THE YOUND MAN POINTED TO THE NORTH AND THEN ASKED THE SUSPECT WHERE HE WAS GOING AND HE STATED SPRING SHADOWS. AT THIS TIME A SECOND HISPANIC MALE CAME UP BEHIND THE FRIST ONE AND WAS ARMED WITH A SHOT GUN. HE STATED TO THE COMP GIVE ME EVERYTHING YOU GOT. THE COMP PULLED 20 DOLLARS OUT OF HIS WALLET AND HANDED IT TO HIM. THE SUSPECT THEN OBSERVED THE COMP BACK PACK IN HIS VEHICLE AND TOLD HIM TO GIVE HIM THAT. THE SUSPECTS THEN LEFT NORTH BOUND ON WYCLIFFE. THE VEHICLE IS A OLDER MODEL 4 DR CHRYSLER WHITE IN COLOR. THE SUSPECTS ARE HISPANIC MALES ONE IS SKINNEY AND THE OTHER IS FAT BOTH BETWEEN 5' 8 AND 5'10. BOTH MALES HAD HEAVY HISPANIC ACCENTS.

HE COMP WAS FOLLOWED HOME BY THE SUSPECTS SO WE NEED TO LET EVERY BODY KNOW TO BE AWARE WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND THEM.

ON WED 10-17-07 BETWEEN THE HRS OF 9AM AND 1PM A BACK WINDOW WAS BROKEN ON A HOUSE IN THE 900 BLK OF WYCLIFFE. NO ENTRY WAS MADE AND NOTHING WAS TAKEN.

IN THE 13500 BLK OF MYRTLEA SAME DATE BETWEEN THE HRS OF 720AM AND 330PM THE BACK DOOR WAS KICKED IN AND SEVERAL ITEMS TAKEN. THIS INCLUDES A 42" TV, A COMPUTER, GAME CUBE, X-BOX AND GAMES. THESE ARE LARGE ITEMS SO THERE WAS A CAR INVOLVED. NO BODY SEEN ANYTHING STRANGE DURNING THE THIS TIME. IF SOMEONE SEES A VEHICLE BACKED INTO A DRIVEWAY ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK THIS COULD BE SUSPIOUS. WE NEED TO BE CALLED ON THIS SO WE MAY CHECK IT OUT. WITH SO MANY WORKMEN IS OUR AREA MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL BE NOTHING BUT THERE IS THAT ONE CHANCE IT COULD BE A BURGLARY.

DAY TIME BURGLARYS

IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS THERE HAVE BEEN 5 DAY TIME BURGLARYS IN OUR AREA. TWO IN THE 900 BLK OF WYCLIFFE ONE IN THE 900 BLK OF WEST FOREST AND TWO IN THE 600 BLK OF WOODBEND. WOODBEND IN NOT IN CONTRACT IT IS THE STREET OFF OF N KIRKWOOD JUST SOUTH OF MEMORIAL. ITEMS TAKEN WERE LAP TOPS AND CAMERAS AND JEWERLY. THE ARE SMALL ITEMS THAT CAN BE PUT IN A BACK PACK. THIS TELLS ME THEY ARE WALKING. THE SUSPECT FOR THE ONE ON WYCLIFFE IS A WHITE MALE MID FORTIES SLIM BUILD AND WORE A YELLOW BASEBALL CAP TURN BACKWARDS. WITNESS STATED HE HAD CLEAN CLOTHS BUT WAS IN NEED OF A SHAVE.

THERE WAS A BURGLARY OF MOTOR VEHICLE IN THE 13800 BLK OF BARRYKNOLL LAST NIGHT. AGAIN WE ASK PEOPLE NOT TO LEAVE ITEMS IN THEIR VEHICLES.

LAST WEEK MEMORIAL VILLAGES CAUGHT TWO DRIVING A STOLE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE CONFESSED TO SEVERAL BURGLARY OF MOTOR VEHICLES IN AND AROUND OUR AREA. THEY WERE THE SAME TWO WE CAUGHT LAST MONTH AND WERE OF OF JAIL. NOW THEY ARE BACK IN JAIL LOOKING AT SOME JAIL TIME. WE RECOVERED SOME PROPERTY THAT HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED BY HPD AUTO THEFT.

I HAVE BEEN INFORMED ABOUT HOMELESS PEOPLE AROUND THE N WILCREST I-10 AREA. IF THEY ARE SOLICITING FROM THE ROADWAY CALL US WE WILL THAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THIS WELL KEEP THEM OUT OF OUR AREA.

BURGLARY OF MOTOR VEHICLE 6/17/07

ON SUNDAY MORNING THE 17 THE OF JUNE IN THE 13500 BLK OF PINEROCK TWO HISPANIC MALES MALES 18 TO 20 YEARS OLD BROLE INTO 3 VEHICLES. THEY TRIED TO ENTER A RESIDENCE THRU A BATHROOM WINDOW BUT WERE SCARED OFF BY THE HOME OWNER. THEY THEN RAN ACROSS THE STREET AND LEFT IN A SMALL 2DR RED CAR. HPD WAS CALLED AND MADE THE LOCATION APROX 2 1/2 HRS LATER. WE DID NOT HERAR ABOUT THIS UNTILL APROX 8PM SUNDAY NIGHT.

AS I HAVE SAID AT ALL THE HOMEOWNERS MEETINGS TO CALL US AS WE DID HAVE UNITS IN THIS AREA AT THIS TIME.

I just wanted to follow up on this and add that a man stating that he was there to measure my home for foundation work was let into my home and did steal several pieces of jewelery. This has been going on by different "rings". I know that the police did catch one of the "rings" that had hit Austin, Dallas, Houston and other towns throughout the state. Unfortunately, none of my pieces have been located. The detective said this is the new thing and is very popular! Do not let anyone into your home without knowing them. And please mention this to anyone else in the house or working in your home!

Hi Donna,

I live on Pinerock and yesterday, someone came to our door and tried to break in. When confronted, he claimed to work for HCAD and claimed he had a right to enter our home. We did not allow him in (although he threatened we would have issues with his management).

We called the City and the Police and both told us this is a new tactic to rob homes. I actually have a friend who lives in Briargrove whose maid let them into the home to measure (why they claim to need entry) and this person stole her jewelry.

In her case and in ours, this person was African with a very strong accent and was wearing a uniform and carrying a clipboard. He also had a measuring "wheel" (although he was carrying the type to measure outside rather than inside, and it was still taped closed/never used). He flashed an ID, but refused to show it beyond flashing it briefly.

I wanted to share this with our neighborhood because he seems to be approaching homes where there are contractors working, and there is a lot of this activity in our neighborhood, and the request could be easily rationalized.

I wanted to make you aware of this because these people seem to have decided to target our neighborhood

Is there a way to sign up for e-mail security updates? Is there an e-mail mailing list that you maintain for our neighborhood? We moved here from Briargrove Park where we received very timely security updates from our homeowners association, so I imagine there must be something similar here in Wilchester. Can you let me know how I can get added to your e-mail distribution list?

Security Notice - February 5, 2007

On Monday night, January 22nd (it was actually Tuesday at 1AM) my son Daniel
was returning home on Briarforest Drive and was accosted by a gang of
carjackers. This happened not more than 300 yards westbound on Briarforest before
the left turn into Lakes of Parkway. A car slowed down in front of him and
another car approached on his right side and stopped. The car in front stopped
and a man (with a red hoodie) jumped out of the drivers side and approached
him brandishing a big silver handgun. Thank G-d my son had the presence of mind
to put his car into REVERSE and accelerate. He managed to spin his car
around and head in the opposite direction. He did hit a median , run over a curb,
lose an entire wheel and drive on 3 wheels to Dairy Ashford and Briar Forest
to the Kroger which was closed but opened their doors to him (they were doing
late night inventory). Following the incident several police cars were
summoned to the scene and a KISD officer had seen part of the incident and
followed these 2 cars to the PALMS apartments next to Westside HS. The perpetrators
gathered in the parking lot with their guns drawn arguing and the office
decided not to approach but to call in the incident. When he was spotted they
dispersed. The police ensued but were not able to catch them. We were very lucky
to have our son escape with his life. Unfortunately last night there was a
successful carjacking the area (Dairy Ashford & Westmere) and I believe a man
was shot in his driveway. I encourage everyone to be careful, watch where
you park, lock your car when you fill it up with gas and try not to drive on
deserted roads late at night.

We need to have our voices heard and get some crime relief in this area.

Variance Request - Carlingford

According to Donald Hall of Value Tech., surveyor, on Dec. 13, 2006, Mac Haik filed a for a variance to request the city not to extend the north end of Carlingford through their property. Evidently, the city notified Mac Haik of thier planned 60 foot right-of-way to extend Carlingford through his property.

Extension of Carlingford - City Variance Hearing 12-14-06.

Dear NWCC,

I received a notice from the City of Houston that Mac Haik Chevrolet Dealership has requested a variance - STREET EXTENSION. What he wants to do is use the side street on Britoak that dead ends at his property where we have a wooded fence; he wants to cut that street through to his property and therefore would have access to our neighborhood. Cannot tell from the Survey that was attached (all documents were faxed copies) if the extension is going all the way through to feeder road of I-10. Notifications were sent to property owners when a subdivision plat requesting a variance is filed for a project located within 205 feet of their property. So only the property owners on Britoak with property within 250 fee of Mac Haik property were notified. So the whole subdivision is not aware that another street will be cutting into our neighborhood.

There is a Planning Commission Meeting, Thursday December 14th at 2:30 pm at City Hall Annex Building, 900 Bagby Street, City Council Chamber, Public Level.

I thought you should be made aware of the request by Mac Haik Chevrolet for our subdivision. I am totally against this request as our street has enough traffic now, also this would created more water drainage into our subdivision,we already have to deal with the 12 foot fence at the back of our properties and the lights in the parking lot that are left on all night.

Unfortunately, I am unable to attend, however, our attorney has agreed to have our subdivision represented at the meeting. I would recommend other residents also attend this hearing and vigorously protest against any further intrusion of additional traffic into our subdivision.

Dangerous Driving Habits

Do you really save time by running a red light? Most people run red lights because they are in a hurry, when in fact they only save seconds. Red light running is the leading cause of urban crashes according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. One in three Americans knows someone who has been injured or killed in a red light running crash. Houston-Galveston Area Council data indicates that red light collisions in the Houston area account for approximately $121 million per year in direct economic cost and $225 million per year in total comprehensive cost.

Beginning September 1, 2006 red light safety cameras began operating at some of our city's most dangerous intersections. Vehicles photographed going through red lights at intersections where cameras are installed will receive a Notice of Violation and $75 fine.

The City of Houston's objective is to change driver behavior to keep the community and our kids safe. Every driver makes a decision when approaching an intersection where the light has just turned red. The goal is for every driver to slow down for a yellow light and stop on red. Rally For America Recycles Day On November 15

The City of Houston is sponsoring the Go Green Houston Rally on America Recycles Day. The Go Green Houston Rally will highlight traditional and non-traditional recycling opportunities. It will be a fun and festive venue as local high school bands and Radio Disney (including their radio personalities and interactive children's activities) encourage Houstonians to recycle.

We are asking Houstonians to GO GREEN by wearing green clothing and bringing gently used eyeglasses, clothing and/or baby items, as well as non-perishable food items to benefit non-profit organizations that reduce, reuse or recycle materials.

HOW MANY DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB?

Or rather how much can you save by simply changing a light bulb? The answer is quite a bit, if it is an ENERGY STAR qualified light bulb. The bulbs use at least 2/3 less energy than standard ones and last up to 10 times longer than regular bulbs. They also generate 70% less heat, so cooling your house with less energy means saving even more money! Changing five bulbs in your house could save you up to an estimated $150.

In this era of rapidly rising energy costs, the City of Houston is joining the nationwide Change a Light campaign during October to encourage the use of more efficient bulbs that have earned the efficient ENERGY STAR rating. It's a small step that can help protect the environment, save energy and save money. Local retailers such as Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and the Home Depot will be making the bulbs available. The Crime Stoppers Safe School Program has worked since 1997 in Houston area school districts to solve and prevent serious crimes on school campuses. Dear District G Citizen,

As we continue to monitor crime issues in District G, I would like to take the opportunity to update you on the status of actions implemented within our community. As your District G representative I continue to convey citizen concerns to Mayor Bill White and Police Chief Harold Hurtt to maintain current sustainable solutions as part of a long-term comprehensive plan.

I remain confident Westside Command Captain Gerstner continues to successfully direct and assign HPD resources for the District. Police resources committed to District G will stay in the district. Undercover operations, tactical and investigative teams, the FBI along with HPD gang task force units, as well as retired officers that have come back to serve in administrative positions allowing active duty officers on the street, are still in place. In addition to these ongoing efforts, new overtime funding has been approved, adding more resources to police district 19. Captain Debra Watkins has been assigned to police district 18 and the effort to combat criminal activity across District G continues to move forward.

Since August, Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Glen Cheek has committed 15 manned patrol cars to cover areas with the most need. Constable Cheek plans to continue the coverage he has provided with no current plans to change this assignment, and we value his service and commitments. The District G staff and I touch base with both Captain Gerstner and Constable Cheek to make sure they have the items they need to perform their duties and the District G office continues to share citizen concerns with both of these leading officers. We maintain this working relationship to provide the best and most informed service available.

The District G office takes the role of communication very seriously. We welcome correspondence from neighbors and many have emailed to let us know they are regaining confidence in the area and see positive changes as a result of the measures. The District G office continues regular communication with both citizens and board members within the Westside neighborhoods. The strong relationships we have formed can only assist the long-term efforts all of us must remain a part of in order to address this issue, and we appreciate everyone maintaining contact with the District G office.

Most importantly, and as I have mentioned in previous correspondence, as the Texas Legislature comes into session, I will work with our state representatives to pursue strengthening enforcement and penalties relating to common and frequent offenses, as well as legislative items that would enable law enforcement to conduct more efficient investigations. In the coming months as bills are filed, the community can assist in making sure such items become law by contacting our state legislators to express your desire to see these items move forward. As state house and senate committees list items for discussion, I will stay in communication with the community and provide more information regarding items of interest citizens may want to include in future correspondence with our state legislators.

I have always believed the role of municipal government is to provide high quality core services. Public safety comes first and requires cooperation and communication with county, state, and federal safety officials in enforcing laws to protect our citizens' safety, health, and well being. Public safety is a priority to this Council District and this Council Member. As your District G representative, I expect Mayor White and Chief Hurtt to maintain the resources committed to our communities.

Katy Freeway Closures October 13, 2006.

I-10/KATY FREEWAY EASTBOUND REDUCED TO ONLY ONE THROUGH-LANE BETWEEN BELTWAY 8 AND WIRT

"Multiple I-10 Eastbound Entrance and Exit Ramp Closures with Staggered Openings Over the Next Two Weeks"

(Houston) - Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate travel routes in the vicinity of eastbound I-10/Katy Freeway between Beltway 8 to Wirt this weekend. October 13-16, 2006, Williams Brothers (WB) will switch the I-10 eastbound mainlane traffic onto new pavement from just west of Gessner to Bingle/Voss. With traffic moving on the new mainlanes, WB can focus on building the temporary entrance and exit ramps and the demolition of the existing I-10 eastbound mainlane bridges in this portion of the corridor. Beginning 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13 until 5:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2006, two lanes of I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound, and the corresponding entrance ramps between Beltway 8 and Wirt will be closed. Only one through-lane of I-10 eastbound will remain open. Simultaneously, the Beltway 8 northbound and southbound direct connector ramps to I-10/Katy Freeway eastbound will be closed. Motorists should continue along the I-10 eastbound frontage road and enter at the Voss entrance ramp. The I-10/Katy HOV lane eastbound and westbound will also be closed from 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13 until 5:00 AM Monday, October 16, 2006. A detailed list of the I-10/Katy Freeway entrance and exit ramp closures is provided below, including closure durations and designated detours. . The I -10 eastbound entrance ramp from the Beltway 8/I-10 intersection will be closed beginning 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13, 2006 until 5:00 AM, Monday, October 16, 2006. Motorists should continue along I-10 eastbound frontage road and enter at the Voss entrance ramp.

. The I-10 eastbound entrance ramp from Gessner will be closed beginning 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13, 2006 until 5:00 AM, Monday, October 16, 2006. Motorists should continue along I-10 eastbound frontage road and enter at the Voss entrance ramp.

. There will be along-term closures of the I-10 eastbound entrance ramp to Bunker Hill beginning 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13, 2006 until further notice. Motorists destined to exit at Bunker Hill should detour via the Gessner exit.

. There will be long-term closure of the I-10 eastbound exit ramp to Bunker Hill beginning 5:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2006 until further notice. To enter the I-10 eastbound mainlanes from Bunker Hill use the Voss entrance ramp.

. The I-10 eastbound exit ramp to Blalock/Campbell will be closed beginning 5:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2006 until Monday, October 30, 2006. Detour via the Gessner exit ramp to access Bunker Hill and Blalock/Echo.

. The I-10 eastbound entrance ramp from Blalock will be closed beginning 8:30 PM, Friday, October 13, 2006 until Monday, October 30, 2006. Motorists should continue along I-10 eastbound frontage road and enter via the Voss entrance ramp.

. The I-10 eastbound exit ramp to Bingle/Voss will be closed 5:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2006 until Monday, October 23, 2006. Motorists should exit Wirt and make a U-turn onto the westbound frontage road to access Bingle/Voss and Campbell.

In addition to the I-10 mainlane and ramp closures above, there will be a total closure of Gessner northbound and southbound at I-10 beginning at 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 14, 2006 through 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2006. Motorists destined for northbound Gessner should turn right on the eastbound frontage road, then left at Bunker Hill to access the I-10 westbound frontage road and right on Gessner. Motorists destined for southbound Gessner should turn right on to the I-10 westbound frontage road, turn left onto the Beltway 8 southbound frontage road, to access the I-10 eastbound frontage road and make a right onto Gessner.

We are currently in need of volunteers to fill the positions of Treasurer and Vice President, as Julie O. has tendered her resignation after several years of service as Treasurer, and Mark Stevens has asked to be replaced as Vice President due to personal committments. Also, we are looking for additional help on the Architectural Control Committee, which keeps our neighborhood standards up. Please do your part and stand up for your neighborhood by volunteering an hour of your time a month. District G Meeting - August 29, 2006

Dear District G Concerned Citizen,

Day after day the Chronicle reports on crime within Houston. For over six months the District G office has actively been addressing this issue through many neighborhood meetings across the District as well as in five broad-based community meetings held over the summer.

On Wednesday, August 30, seventeen hundred concerned citizens attended the sixth District G crime community meeting for the opportunity to speak to Mayor Bill White and Police Chief Harold Hurtt about the serious attention needed to address crime within the District. As a result of our efforts, I can assure you as the District G Council Member, citizens have been heard and action to implement solutions has been taken.

The most important component of quality of life is public safety. The District G citizens are afraid, they feel threatened, their daily patterns have changed, and they believe their community is unsafe. For many months the District G office in cooperation with proactive citizens, has maintained a close relationship with Westside Command Captain Richard Gerstner to allocate the resources needed to address the police districts within District G and to restore order to areas that formerly enjoyed safe neighborhoods. New police resources are committed to District G and we are already seeing results. Numerous undercover operations are ongoing and criminal activity is being shut down. Tactical and investigative teams are in place focusing on hot spots with repeat activity. The FBI along with HPD gang task force units are in the District to monitor and dismantle gang activity. In addition, retired officers are coming back to serve in administrative positions to allow active duty officers on the street. The District G office, working on behalf of citizens, has achieved the result of more boots on the ground.

Westside Command Captain Gerstner continues to anticipate needs for the District and Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Glen Cheek is a strong partner in addressing current crime trends. Within the last few weeks Constable Cheek committed 15 manned patrol cars to cover areas with the most need. In relationship to these substantial items, Westside Command, which services the entire District, will be divided into two smaller manageable command centers that will allow more concentrated police efforts. The preliminary stages of this change are quickly moving forward, and Chief Hurtt committed 140 officers to the District G area.

The crime issue in District G is the most significant issue this office is focused on and it is being addressed by a community team of City and County officials, HISD and Spring Branch school board officials, churches, neighborhood associations, apartment owners and managers, and coalitions directly affected by the change in crime in the District. I encourage citizens’ participation so that we may continue to strengthen our relationships to address crime as a united team. Additionally, as FEMA funding is phased out, I will stay involved in conversations with the Mayor to represent the best interests of District G. As the Texas Legislature comes into session, I will work with our state senators and representatives to strengthen enforcement and penalties relating to the most common and frequent offenses. We will address not only violent crimes, but all crime classifications across the board that affect you and your neighbors’ lives.

As the voice for the citizens in District G, I expect the Mayor and Chief Hurtt to implement a long-term comprehensive plan to solve the crime in west Houston. We are neighbors working with neighbors to send the message that crime is unacceptable.
